The Value of an Agent, and Why I Became One (Again)
Recently I was reminded how powerful an agent relationship can be.
I held an open house, and a couple showed up. The house is not for them, but we talk about their needs and they happily provide their contact information. After following up the next day, it turns out the husband has a “real estate friend” he wants to talk to. It was clear to me, unless the friend was too busy or retiring, he was probably going to be their agent.
I graciously thanked them for their consideration. I did not expect another response saying that they officially have their own agent and are making an offer somewhere.
I think they were trying to be sincere, although there was a mild sting. I thought “Uh, did you really need to remind me you are working with someone else?”
What’s important here is the value and peace of mind an agent provides. As positive as an impression I made, they simply already knew an agent and real estate is a relationship-driven business. I have been someone’s “real estate friend” before, and I’ll be them again.
For most people, home purchases and sales will be the most stressful financial decisions of their lives. The different stages, the changing laws and technology, the considerations on what really matters, are a lot for a single person or a family to focus on when they are juggling school, work, kids, grandparents, health issues, and other parts of life.
A good agent isn’t one who knows everything, but one who can find out anything their client needs. A good agent keeps their clients often informed, and looks out for their best interests. And if you know someone who does those things, you stick with them.
When I restarted my real estate business, I knew what I was getting into. And I also remember the reasons why I returned:
-
A real estate agent does not have an easy job, but they have a flexibility few other careers offer. That was the thing my family most needed from me.
-
From my own home transactions and renovations, I learned a lot about houses. I wish I had known so many things before we did some projects to avoid stress and costs. I know there’s people out there who need solutions or answers to their home questions, and I want to be invested in helping them. Because having an advocate can make a huge difference.
The market remains stable, although many feel uncertain about their options or the attainability of their goals. If you or someone you know are looking for guidance on navigating this real estate market, I am happy to discuss finding a solution for you.
